Questions we are asked
What arrives, and how often?
One edition a week. It opens with the week's defining theme, argued, then reads the money, the rules and the frontier in that order, and ends with what the week means for you. Fifteen minutes to read. There is no daily drumbeat. If a week ever demands a second email, that fact will itself be the story.
What does it cost?
Nothing. The weekly edition is free on the site and free by email. The courses are the paid product, and subscribers hear about them first. We send nothing else: no partner mailings, no sponsored inserts, no second list you did not ask to join.
What happens to my email address?
You confirm it before anything is sent. Signing up creates an unconfirmed record, and the link in the confirmation email is what activates it. The address is used to send the edition and for nothing else. We do not sell personal data, we do not run surveillance advertising, and we do not enrich your record from data brokers.
How do I unsubscribe?
Every edition carries an unsubscribe link and it works immediately. No confirmation screen, no retention offer, no email asking you to reconsider. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything processed before it. Ask us to delete the record entirely and we will; the privacy policy sets out how.
Do you track whether I open it?
We measure delivery and, where the mail client makes it detectable, aggregate opens, so we can tell whether the thing is arriving and being read. We do not build individual reading profiles and we do not use the results to target anyone. The privacy policy states the legal basis for each of these.
Can I read it without subscribing?
Yes. Every edition publishes on the site at the same time, in full, with no counter and no wall. The email exists for readers who would rather not remember to visit. The archive is open to everyone, including the sources listed at the foot of each piece and any corrections attached to it.
Google lets you name the publications you want to see more of. Choosing us puts more of our work in Top Stories. It is reversible.
